Lamb of God’s “Laid to Rest” Is Featured In the Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers Reboot
If you’re a pothead, as we are, you or at least one of your friends has watched this Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers reboot on Disney+. The movie’s got it all for a stoner — an all-star cast, constant references to cartoons you’ve seen before, and of course, varying animation styles that feel incredibly self-aware and kind of awesome. And it also has a cameo from Virginia groove metallers Lamb of God, whose song “Laid to Rest” shows up for a brief moment in the film.
SPOILERS, WE GUESS: Yup, when we meet modern Chip, years after the Rescue Rangers’ star rose and fell, we see that he’s living a sad bachelor’s life without his trusty madcap sidekick Dale. Chip walks home from his soulless job, enters his house, and then takes off his earbuds, and for a brief second we can heard Lamb of God blasting, with Randy Blythe snarling the lyrics, “Console yourself — you’re better alone!” Then Chip taps the earbuds, and it’s gone.
Which is a pretty cool little reference, we gotta admit. First, because it’s funny that the straight man of the cartoon chipmunk duo listens to surging groove metal in his quieter moments. Second, because of all the songs about being alone, this is the one they chose? Someone at Disney must like metal, at least a little.
For those of you who want to check it out, Lamb of God shows up at the 12:45 mark in the movie. You might have missed it when you watched it the first time, because honestly, it’s barely there for a second, and anyway, you were most likely so fucking high that you could barely see straight. You weren’t high? Don’t lie to us. You watched Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and you read MetalSucks. Your brain swims in resin.
Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers is available now on Disney+.
