Jungle Rot’s Dave Matrise Says These Two Bands Are Keeping True Death Metal Alive

0

This week, we had the pleasure of talking to Jungle Rot‘s Dave Matrise about the band’s upcoming new album A Call to Arms while premiering the title track. During our chat with Dave, we asked him why he thought Jungle Rot had kept going while so many other bands had failed or burnt out.

Dave responded:

“That’s a good question — I ask myself that every day! There’s still a lot of stuff I want to achieve, touring, playing some festivals here and there. I still enjoy playing music, writing with my guys, and getting out and playing live. I try not to make it too much of a hassle, and try to keep it fun and positive, and just keep going forward. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve sacrificed a lot in life to keep this going, but we enjoy it still.”

This led us to ask: let’s say we’re a young death metal band. We’re finally hitting our stride, and want to have Jungle Rot-level longevity. Did Dave have any advice for us?

Dave offered words of wisdom — and in the process, he also told us about two new bands keeping true death metal alive:

“Advice is always hard to give. But I think if you’ve got a good buzz going, you wanna try and ride it as hard as you can. You wanna try and tour as much as you can, because you wanna really keep it going. It’s hard, because there’s a lot of competition out there. But there’s always a couple of bands who break through. Frozen Soul, I really like. 200 Stab Wounds — a lot of these young death metal bands playing pure death metal. I dig them a lot, man. You gotta stay in it to win it, keep fighting the fight.”
