Ghost’s New Nameless Ghoul Look Is Based on the Tusken Raiders from Star Wars

Whether we like it or not — and in this reporter’s case, he does notStar Wars was vitally influential to heavy metal music and culture. Without the franchise’s mixture of sci-fi and old-school fantasy, much of metal’s mythology and aesthetics would not exist; Darth Vader is undoubtedly one of the most influential fictional characters in metal history. Now, it seems that Ghost frontman Tobias forge has cribbed from the franchise in the form of the new look sported by the band’s Nameless Ghouls on their current IMPERA album cycle.

Speaking to Revolver, Ghost was asked about the current look being worn by the Namless Ghouls. And as it turns out, he based their costumes on those of the Tusken Raiders, the nomadic indigenous people of the planet Tatooine who are represented alternately as antagonists and sympathetic bystanders throughout the Star Wars universe.

Here’s what Forge said:

“I wanted a sort of militant look, but any time you have people in uniform and in plural, you end up with a slight military vibe. But I wanted to progress that from cult members to more like an army. So you have a little bit of Thirties European there, and also old air-pilot helmets. As a Star Wars fan, I’ve always been into the Tusken Raiders and their sort of lifeless look, so that was also part of it.”

There you go — another metal band has bitten off Star Wars. Don’t worry, it’ll happen again.
