Rob Zombie Posts First Look at Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson In The Munsters
Now that Rob Zombie‘s adaptation of horror-comedy TV show The Munsters has a PG rating, we’re even more excited by what he’s going to do with it. When we assumed that it would be a gritty ’70s slasher story about a cannibal family who dress up as the Universal Monsters, we were just down, but now that we know it’s a purely innocent romp, we’re fascinated by every choice moving forward. Case in point, Rob’s latest casting choice will be an interesting addition to a PG film: Cassandra Peterson, AKA Elvira, Mistress of the Dark!
Rob posted the following message to his Instagram:
“ATTENTION CASTING NEWS! ????Straight from the set of THE MUNSTERS is your first look at Barbara Carr, the #1 real estate agent in all of Mockingbird Heights. Barbara is played by none other the CASSANDRA PETERSON @therealelvira . Yes, the Mistress of the Dark has joined the cast of THE MUNSTERS. ???? Stay tuned for more exciting news to come. ????”
Look at that: a chaste Elvira role! Don’t get me wrong, Peterson is 70 at this point, so we can understand why she fits this role rather than, say, Lily. Still, it’s crazy to see Rob bringing horror’s dishiest host in for a seemingly tame role! Then again, The Munsters was often about how the monsters are human and the humans are freaks, so maybe Peterson’s character has an angle we don’t know about yet.
The Munsters will star Jeff Daniel Phillips, who has also had a role in every Zombie flick since Halloween II, as Herman Munster, while Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, takes on the role of Lily Munster. Dan Roebuck, another Zombie regular, plays Grandpa Munster. Also in the film will be Zombie favorite Richard Brake as mad scientist Dr. Henry August Wolfgang and Lost star Jorge Garcia as his hunchbacked assistant Floop.
More as we know it!
