The Muppets’ Band Are Getting Their Own TV Show
We’re suckers for a fictional band here at MetalSucks. Given how often cartoons feel more realistic than scripted drama, we feel a deep kinship with acts like Dethklok, Cold Slither, and Timmy & The Lords of the Underworld. But now, it appears that one of the most infamous fake bands of all time are finally getting their place in the spotlight: Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the band made famous for their appearance alongside Jim Henson’s Muppets.
According to Deadline, the Electric Mayhem are getting their own TV show alongside star Lilly Singh (of A Little Late with Lilly Singh, apparently). The band — vocalist/keyboardist Dr. Teeth, bassist Floyd Pepper, saxophone player Zoot, vocalist/guitarist Janice, trumpet player lips, and drummer Animal — will be working with executive producer Adam Goldberg and Muppets veterans Bill Barretta and Jeff Yorkes.
According to Deadline:
…the series will follow The Electric Mayhem Band as they go on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. Singh will play the (human) lead role of Nora, a driven junior A&R executive tasked with managing and wrangling the mayhem that is The Electric Mayhem Band. With the help of Nora, the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current-day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.
Look, we all know why we’re going to watch at least one episode of this show, and it’s fucking Animal. There’s a reason by the band’s drummer surpassed the Mayhem and became a recurring character all throughout the Muppets’ career, and it’s because he’s a maniac drummer who has to literally be kept on a leash. He’s the Muppet version of “Philthy” Phil Taylor from Motörhead. Dude rips.
Anyway, the show has been greenlit by Disney+, so get ready to introduce your kids to a confusing melange of rock stereotypes!
