Ghost’s Tobias Forge Calls Out “‘Core’ Bands With a Sentence for a Name…They Were The S**t”

0

UPDATE: Due to a misreading of the quote, we originally wrote that Tobias Forge said “‘core’ bands with a sentence for a name” were simply “shit.” He in fact said they were “THE shit,” seemingly to emphasize their popularity at the time, which is a very different sentiment. We apologize for any pain this mistake may have caused anyone, but stand by the claim that “‘core’ bands with a sentence for a name” is a really funny thing to say.

Original story:

I will admit, I have been critical of Ghost in the past. It’s the vocals that bother me the most. But Tobias Forge just reminisced about the band’s early days in an interview, and I’ve got to be real, he used a phrase that I’m going to now incorporate into my everyday metal terminology.

Speaking to Mixdown, Tobias discussed the band’s early tours when they were first emerging in 2010…and then he dropped this gem:

“I always felt proud that when we came out, we had a brief invite into the occult rock thing that was happening at that time, and as soon as things started to move for us we were out of that quickly…we started playing with lots of other bands.

“Once we started touring I felt very alienated because at that point, all these ‘core’ bands with a sentence for a name – they were the shit!”

BWAAAAAAHAHAHA! “‘Core’ bands with a sentence for a name!” I LOVE IT. God, there were so many of those (though none quite as ridiculous as one band in particular). Thank you, Tobias. Thank you for bringing a chuckle to this wizened loudmouth.

Forge also went on to admit that he was envious of these bands’ acclaim:

“I envied the massive amount of opportunities they had because they were all new, current, same age…I’ve always felt like the odd kid…I felt we stuck out like a sore thumb.”

Big of him to admit. Even if I don’t like Ghost a ton, I appreciate this.
