Here’s Your First Look at Daniel Radcliffe In The “Weird” Al Yankovic Biopic
Rock biopics are a dime a dozen these days — but we weren’t sure the “Weird” Al Yankovic biopic was the one we had in mind. This is mainly because, besides the occasional artist who doesn’t want their single turned into a song about tuna fish sandwiches or what have you, we don’t think of “Weird” Al’s life as being an incredibly controversial one. But the movie — titled Weird: The “Weird” Al Yankovic Story — is going forward, with Daniel “Harry Potter” Radcliffe portraying the comedy rocker. And now, you have your first look at Radcliffe in the role.
As you can see in the picture below via Consequence of Sound, they’re definitely making “Weird” Al look a lot edgier than we expected. Even with accordion in hand, this photo seems to suggest that Al had a darker life than we know about. What do we think? Was “Weird” Al shooting goofy juice behind the scenes? Was he playing his accordion at a series of gay clubs, where he was known for having a ton of illicit sex? Did he have an affair with Cher that resulted in him getting his face bashed in by Sonny Bono at a Hollywood party?
Maybe, actually! Because according to the press release for the movie, the film:
“…holds nothing back, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle. WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story takes audiences on a truly unbelievable journey through Yankovic’s life and career, from gifted child prodigy to the greatest musical legend of all time.”
Guess it wasn’t all tuna fish after all!
Weird will be released exclusively on The Roku Channel, though there’s no release date set so far.
