Anthrax’s Scott Ian Posts Tribute to Meat Loaf

While the world still mourns the passing of iconic singer Meat Loaf last week at the age of 74, one prominent metal musician has a deeper tie to the man born Marvin Lee Aday: Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, who has been married to Meat Loaf’s daughter, Pearl, since 2011.

Posting on social media, Ian paid tribute to his late father-in-law on Sunday night, January 23, including a photo of Scott and Pearl’s son, Revel, with his grandfather, along with some brief words.

Ian wrote:

“There are so many stories to tell, and I know they will all be told over time. For now, what I know is that Meat’s legacy will live on through his family – Pearl, Amanda and Revel. Their forever love for their father/grandfather (Papa Meat) outweighs the heaviness of their hearts.

“Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love, we feel it.

“I love you Meat.”

Ian was once asked in an interview what it was like having Meat Loaf as his father in law. He explained:

“It’s like having anyone as your father-in-law. It’s not like he’s on stage when you’re hanging out with the guy. We actually had dinner with him last night, and all we talked about was fantasy football. He’s just a regular guy who happens to be a legendary rock star.”

No cause of death has been publicly revealed, but Metal Sludge, who on Thursday, January 20 reported that the singer was “in very bad health and may just be on his death bed,” cites an unnamed source who claims the singer had been sick with Covid-19.

Meat Loaf’s family broke the news on his official Facebook page. The statement reads:

“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends.

“His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including ‘Fight Club,’ ‘Focus,’ ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ and ‘Wayne’s World.’

“’Bat Out of Hell’ remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time. We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.

“We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!”

On behalf of everyone at MetalSucks, we continue to wish the Aday family and their friends all the best during this time.
