Converge Release New Song “Coil”
Converge have released “Coil,” a track off of the upcoming Bloodmoon: I. The new collaborative album also includes Chelsea Wolfe, her bandmate/writing partner Ben Chisholm, and vocalist/guitarist Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man, etc).
Gotta say, I liked the de facto title track from Bloodmoon: I, but I fucking LOVE “Coil.” It’s not really your typical super-punishing, densely anarchic Converge material — it’s much more of a kind with “Cruel Bloom” than “Homewrecker” and straight-up makes “Grim Heart/ Black Rose” seem heavy by comparison. Jacob Bannon tells Decibel that the track “was a true collaboration,” which tracks — this could just as easily be a Chelsea Wolfe song or something from Brodsky and Marissa Nadler’s Droneflower project.
Bannon also says that “‘Coil’ turned out to be one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been a part of.” Which I back, hard. Let’s revisit it in a few years, but this song may be an all-timer.
