L.A. Guns Singer Calls Recent Vince Neil Performances “Pitiful”

L.A. Guns singer Phil Lewis recently made an appearance on
TotallydrivenTV‘s The Bay Ragni Show (below), where he talked about staying in shape while he’s not on tour. As part of this discussion, he made an allusion to a mystery vocalist who has recently made headlines for being a total embarrassment in concert. Let’s see if we can figure out who he’s referencing:

“I’ve got lungs — I’ve got lungs for days. I’m a runner, so I’ve always had a big lung capacity and a loud, annoying voice. So, those things have really, really served me well. And [I am regularly] on the rowing machine, getting the stamina going, because — I wouldn’t say I’m in training, but not doing anything for two years, I don’t wanna get shocked. I don’t wanna get… Like a couple of guys who’d come out and they’re halfway through their set, and they’re, like, ‘Oh, fuck. I’m completely out of shape. I haven’t done this in so long.’ Well… You saw… You know who I’m talking about. And it was pitiful to see the lead vocalist of ‘The Stadium [Tour]’ headliner not able to make it through fucking four songs. C’mon! As a frontman, as a singer, you have a fucking responsibility to step it up, especially if you’re that fucking big. So, no fucking sympathy from me whatsoever. It takes work. It takes discipline.”

Lewis is, of course, talking about Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil, who ended a solo show in May by telling the crowd, while totally winded:

“Hey, guys… I’m sorry, you guys. It’s been a long time playin’. My fuckin’ voice is gone… Uh… We love you, and we’ll hopefully see you next time, man. Take care.”

Neil has played several more shows since then, all with similar results. He recently fell from the stage and broke some ribs mid-performance, and that was the least-humiliating concert he’s given this year.

This despite the fact that ever since ‘The Stadium Tour’ was announced before the pandemic, the band, their management, and even Neil himself, acknowledging his reputation, made assurances that he’d be in fighting shape by the time the tour rolled around.

Most recently — and prior to the stage fall, it’s worth noting — Neil revealed that he’s using something called Emsculpt Neo®, which describes itself as “a revolutionary non-invasive fat burning and muscle building device that helps trim, strengthen, define, lift and tone your body with incredible ease.” It “combines high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy with radiofrequency (RF) energy to build muscle and reduce fat simultaneously,” and its creators claim that half-hour treatments “can help you achieve your dream body without sacrificing your lifestyle — because who has time to spend hours at the gym?”.

As for why Lewis decided to throw shade at Neil, well… L.A. Guns, successful though they have been, are probably one of the more underrated glam bands in that sub-genre’s history. They’ve had to watch bands and performers who aren’t as good as they are sell more records and concert tickets for decades. The fact that Vince Neil now seems as though he’s not even trying must be maddening for Lewis.
