Dani Filth Thought Faust From Emperor Was Kidding When He Confessed to Murdering Someone
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Cradle of Filth frontman Dani Filth reveals that in 1993, former Emperor drummer Bård “Faust” Eithun confessed to him that he’d killed a man… and Filth didn’t take him seriously.
In 1992, Faust infamously murdered a gay man, Magne Andreassen, by stabbing him 37 times. He was sentenced to fourteen years in prison, of which he served nine before being released in 2003.
According to Filth, CoF and Emperor were on tour together in 1993 when this happened:
“We played at the Royal Court in Liverpool, then had a massive party. Faust came up to me pissed out his head and told me about murdering a gay guy. I dismissed it as a load of crap but when it all came out I felt like an accessory to murder after the fact.”
In his own defense, Filth offers:
“[I]f anyone had seen Emperor at that time, they’d never have taken them seriously. There’s, like, Samoth [né Tomas Thormodsæter Haugen, guitar], Lord of Silence, but he wasn’t Lord of Silence that night – he was Lord of Giggles and Laughter… Everybody was either high or taking Es, drinking – all fucked.”
Well, that’s an unnerving story. We’ve all heard someone confess to something nutty when they were fucked up; this will make you re-think being so dismissive of that nutty confession the next time it happens.
