Original Carcass Drummer Ken Owen Auctioning off Drum Kit From Necroticism and Heartwork
Ken Owen, the much-beloved original drummer for Carcass, is auctioning off a drum kit he used to record the classic albums Necroticism – Descanting The Insalubrious (1991) and Heartwork (1993).
Owen, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in 1999 that left him in a coma for ten months and ultimately rendered him unable to play drums to the fullest possible extent, is attempting to raise money to purchase a new computer that will allow him to create new music.
The eBay seller description of the kit reads as follows:
“The following restoration work has been carried out – Full strip down & assessment with replacement parts sourced. All shells were initially deep cleaned inside & out. Two cracks were discovered in the 14” & 16” toms & have been professionally addressed with glue being injected & correctly clamped for 24 hours. These cracks are still visible & are part of the kits history. The shells are all now structurally sound with no further issues. All chrome was removed & de-rusted in HG Rust Cure. It was then mirror polished. The chrome does have some heavy pitting in parts & again, this is part of its history so has been retained. All the shells have been machine polished, Carnauba waxed & Ceramic sealed. I have left all of the battle scars & dings as again, to protect its history. The whole process was carried out over 60 hours.”
Along with the kit, the winner of the auction will receive the following items:
- A Framed Certificate of Authenticity signed by Ken Owen himself
- A Framed Photo of Ken Owen signing the Certificate
- A Framed Photo of Ken behind the drum kit
- A Framed Carcass T-Shirt as worn by Ken in the Photos
The kit will not be shipped to the winner of the auction, meaning its new owner will either have to pick it up or arrange for pick up and shipping from via a third party.
You can bid on the kit here. As of this writing, the price is up to £4,000.00 (roughly $5,493).
Carcass reunited in 2007 with Owen’s blessing. His drum throne has since been filled by Daniel Erlandsson (Arch Enemy, Brujeria) and Daniel Wilding (Aborted, Heaven Shall Burn). The band’s much-anticipated new album, Torn Arteries, was released last month.
