A Metal Fan Was Denied an AirBNB Over Musical Taste
While metal has gained some wider acceptance in recent years on a critical level, unfortunately some of the stigmas of metalheads as violent degenerates persist. That was on full display recently when an AirBNB host canceled a booked reservation upon learning of their future guest’s penchant for heavy music.
Kayleigh, a fan of the band Death Blooms, decided to take a road trip to catch their show in Bristol, England on September 21, and did what responsible people do: booked a place to stay so she wouldn’t have to make a trip home late at night. When the host asked what was bringing Kayleigh to town, she responded “A wee band called Death Blooms playing at The Exchange,” and that’s when the host came down on her and canceled the reservation.
“I’m afraid I’m not comfortable with that,” the host began, as shown on a screen shot shared by the band. The host continued by saying that Kayleigh had no previous stays and reviews of her conduct as a guest on her AirBNB profile, “So all I have to go on is the nature of the band you are seeing. I find their music aggressive, expletive-riddled and disturbing. Therefore I prefer to decline your visit.”
Death Blooms tagged AirBNB in a Twitter share featuring screen shots of the exchange, and the rental service replied that they’d “take a closer look into this,” asking for more information.
