Unto Others Drop New Single, “No Children Laughing Now”
I continue to delight in the new material from Unto Others, the band formerly known as Idle Hands. Their seamless mix of metal riffing and a goth / new wave sensibility seems so obvious on the surface — hasn’t someone done this before?? — but no, not like this. It took the right group of musicians to come along and nail it, and Unto Others have done exactly that.
“No Children Laughing Now” is the latest single, arriving this morning. Harmonized, Iron Maiden-like lead guitars up against Depeche Mode-inspired vocals, shimmering clean guitar atmospherics and an unshakeable groove? No problem! Unto Others — who perhaps derived their new band name from a lyric in this song — have got it perfected. Tribulation and H.I.M. are the closest touchstones I can summon, but neither quite gets at the heart of what Unto Others are doing.
For more, check out the apostrophe-challenged “When Will Gods Work Be Done” and the grammatically acceptable “Downtown” from earlier this summer.
Strength comes out on September 24 via Roadrunner Records; pre-order here.
The band’s planned European tour with Behemoth, Arch Enemy and Carcass was sadly axed on account of the pandemic, but expect other live dates to surface soon.
