Poppy Announces New Album, Flux, Drops Title Track + Trippy Video
The best part of following Poppy over the past few years has been watching her artistic journey: we’re just spectators along for the ride while Poppy goes wherever the hell she wants to go. That kind of artistic freedom — and fan appreciation/acceptance of it — is so rare today, when most artist pigeonhole themselves into a box of writing the same album over and over.
And so Poppy’s latest stylistic pivot, this time into ’90s-inspired alt rock, continues where she left off with “Her” last month, which itself dove into grunge. The newest track, “Flux,” comes from her upcoming album of the same name, and arrives with a video that answers the question “What if I took acid while playing Candyland with my kid?” The song itself features a catchy chorus that calls to mind the biggest hits by The Offspring, just with less white guy energy. Like I said, it’s Poppy’s world, we just live in it.
Watch the video for “Flux” below. Flux arrives September 24 via Sumerian Records.
