Metal Church Blame “Big Pharma” and “Failing Health-Care System” for Mike Howe’s Death
Earlier today we learned that the death of Metal Church vocalist Mike Howe, who passed away this past Monday, July 26 at the age of 55, has been ruled a suicide.
The band have since fired back at the report, which came via TMZ, issuing a statement blaming Howe’s death on the “failing health-care system” and “Big Pharma.”
The new band statement was posted by Blabbermouth, although they do not cite a source, and the statement does not currently appear on any of the band’s social media profiles. It says:
“If you knew Mike Howe, then you knew he was a truly good human being who loved his friends, his family and his many fans around the world. He would always go the extra mile to make someone feel good and he would always give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. We ask that you remember Mike in that way and for the amazing metal music he created.
“As to what really happened? He was victimized by a failing health-care system and subsequently poisoned by the venom of Big Pharma. In short and in essence, he fell prey to the real ‘Fake Healer’…enough said. #truth
“Godspeed Mike Howe, WE LOVE YOU!!!”
I 100% back the first part of Metal Church’s statement despite never knowing Mike. It should go without saying, if you regularly read MetalSucks, that I also believe the American healthcare system is terrible, so I agree with that part too.
But that’s a mighty wide claim to level at Big Pharma — who, to be clear, I also believe are crooked bloodsuckers — and some nebulous “fake healer” without any specifics. Are they blaming treatment Howe had been undergoing for some disease? Is that accusation related to the lack of mental health services in the U.S.? Do they believe the Covid-19 vaccine is responsible for his death? It’s just a very vague, out there thing to post… which is perhaps why they ultimately pulled it down. And look, these guys are grieving, so I am absolutely willing to cut them plenty of slack. But I do hope to get some clarity on this issue in the future (when they’re ready, of course).
Howe served two stints as the vocalist of Metal Church; from 1988 to 1995, and from 2015 to the present.
