New Zealand Mother Names Her Children Metallica, Pantera and Slayer
A New Zealand mother and devoted metalhead has named her children after three of the most legendary metal bands of all time: Metallica, Pantera and Slayer.
But wait, there’s more: Metallica’s middle name is And Justice For All.
The initial report of the most metal baby-naming of all time, which on first take seems too sensational to be true, comes from journalist David Farrier, who claims “I’ve seen the birth certificates.”
Farrier even reached out to New Zealand’s Registrar-General about baby-naming restrictions in the country, and got the following reply: “There are no restrictions on naming babies after bands or albums, as long as the word used is not generally considered to be offensive or does not resemble an official rank or title.”
Guess the legality depends on whether you consider Metallica’s recent output to be offensive or not. [rimshot!]
The woman told Farrier that “it’s not easy raising three of the heaviest bands.”
While the full article is behind a pay wall, you can view Farrier’s Twitter thread with the highlights below. It’s not clear from the abridged version how old the children are or the father’s (or fathers’) identity or role in the naming.
