Alex Varkatzas (Ex-Atreyu) Launches New Band Dead Icarus
SHOTS FIRED!
In what is surely not a coincidence, Alex Varkatzas, former screamer for Atreyu, has announced that he’s launching a new band, Dead Icarus… on the same day that Atreyu release Baptize, their first album without him. Between this and the fact that Varkatzas previously called the material on Baptize “fake heavy” (despite having apparently written some of it), I think we can safely assume there’s beef here.
We don’t actually know anything about Dead Icarus’ sound yet — shit, we don’t even know who else besides Varkatzas is involved — last August, just before splitting with Atreyu, the vocalist expressed a desire to start “a super heavy band” with “some sick Swedish riffs” and “super heavy breakdowns,” citing Blood Has Been Shed, In Flames, and Lamb of God as potential influences. So our best guess right now is that’s how Dead Icarus will sound.
You’ll know more when we do; in the meantime, Varkaztas’ announcement video is below.
The Varkatzas-less Atreyu start a tour with Crown the Empire, Tetrarch, Saul, and Defying Decay in November. Dates are here.
