Serj Tankian Posts New Video for “Rumi”
System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has shared a new video for “Rumi,” a track from his debut solo EP, Elasticity, released earlier this year.
Speaking on the track, Serj explained that its title is a reference to both the poet Rumi and Serj’s own son:
“Lyrical specificity in music is generally discouraged because less people internalize them as they have less of a personal connection. But there are cases where it is vital if the inspiration and muse is specific. In this case, a father talking to his son and reverence to the poet that inspired the son’s name could not be re-written so one can generalize.”
Elasticity consists of a group of “rock songs” Tankian was working on by himself at least as far back as 2018. He said at the time they were originally written for System but that he now planned to release them as part of a solo EP in light of the creative differences that continue to keep System of a Down from making a new album.
Meanwhile, Serj recently revealed he has another entire EP already written, among several projects in the works.
