Some of Late Children of Bodom Frontman Alexi Laiho’s Gear Is for Sale
Today sees the release of Bodom After Midnight’s Paint the Sky with Blood. The EP represents the last recordings completed by former Children of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho (bandmate Daniel Freyberg has said there’s nothing else), so unless there are some old unreleased CoB tracks in a vault somewhere… this is it. This is our farewell to one of the most acclaimed and beloved metal musicians of the century to date.*
That means that Laiho is currently at the forefront of all our minds’ right now… which makes it an ideal time to auction off some of his gear.
Which is happening, via a website called Musamaailma, which, as far as I can tell, is like a Finnish version of Reverb. Specifically, a bunch of Laiho’s amps and pedals are up for sale.
They’re not cheap — prices range from 1,200 € (about $1,450 U.S.) to 10,000 € (upwards of $12K) — but it’s not like you get the chance to own gear used by a legend every day.
Here’s the inventory…
1. #1 Touring Rig: 10,000 €
2. Spare Touring Amp: 3,500 €
3. “Studio” Amp: 5,000 €
4. JCM800 KK Amp: 4,000 €
5. Blackstar S200 Amp: 1,200 €
…go here to make a purchase.
Laiho died in December at the age of 41 as the result of “alcohol-induced degeneration of the liver and pancreas connective tissue” (he also “had a cocktail of painkillers, opioids and insomnia medication in his system”).
Freyberg, who played guitar alongside Laiho in both Children of Bodom and Bodom After Midnight, was recently a guest on The MetalSucks Podcast. Listen to that here.
*Yes I know they were around in the late 90s. 99.5% of us had no idea who the hell they were until the aughts, though. Let’s take about 5-10% off’er over there, Squirrely Dan.
