Abigail Graphic Novel Adaptation Coming from King Diamond and Z2 Comics
King Diamond is so theatrical his name might as well be Stephen Sondheim. And his in-fuckin’-credible 1987 sophomore solo outing, Abigail, tells a complete narrative. So why oh why did it take someone so long to get around to making an Abigail graphic novel?
That wrong is about to be righted: an Abigail graphic novel will arrive later this year from Z2 Comics, “the leading publisher of music-inspired graphic novels” (they’ve also worked with Dio, Anthrax, and Poppy, to name a few). The graphic novel will be penned by Dan Watters (Coffin Bound, Lucifer) and drawn by Damien Worm (October Faction), with significant input from His Majesty himsellf. According to a press release, it will tell “a chilling new version of the story of Miriam Natias and Jonathan LaFey and an inheritance far more terrifying than even the haunted mansion in which it’s discovered.”
Says His Highness of the collaboration:
“A graphic novel based on one of my stories is a dream come true for me. Working with a company like Z2 and the writer Dan Watters, and the graphic artist Damien Worm, is making this project the highest class one could wish for. Not just our own fans, but any fan of the horror genre, will enjoy the darkness and creepiness of this project. I simply can’t wait to personally be able to present this to you once we get closer to Halloween. Abigail has risen again.”
But wait! There’s more! Z2 is also putting out an exclusive, brand new, Abigail graphic novel-themed picture disc, featuring the book’s cover, the original album cover, and an alternate cover painting by artist Torbjörn Jörgensen.
All of that good stuff is available for pre-order now exclusively through Z2’s website. There are four editions of the book available: a soft cover ($25), a hardcover ($40), a deluxe edition ($100), and a super-super-extra-special deluxe edition ($300).
An additional “very unique and sinister piece of dark art” has yet to be unveiled.
You can view photos some below. View more pics, and place your pre-orders, here. They’re expected to ship in October.
King Diamond is reportedly working on new solo music and new Mercyful Fate music… but you probably shouldn’t expect to hear anything before 2022.
