Aborted Are In the Studio Recording Their Next Album
Aborted, like The Black Dahlia Murder, are one of those bands who seem to be remarkably consistent; they put out a new album pretty much every two years — often with EPs in-between — and the results are invariably excellent.
So the news that the Belgian death metallers have hit the studio to record their their eleventh full-length is most definitely cause for celebration.
The band shared the news on social media, revealing that drummer Ken Bedene has already completed recording his parts with producer Zack Ohren (Machine Head, All Shall Perish, Exmortus, etc.). They also shared some photos of Bedene and Ohren in the studio.
Says Bedene of the experience:
“When working on this record, we actually had the plan to jam with the band for a good week before tracking to really flesh out the songs. Well… we all know what happened last year, so we were left with the choice to wait or to try something different.
“I think all of us wanted to avoid the thought of ‘the pandemic is going to lessen our album quality’. Luckily for us, we’ve written music apart from each other for over 10 years now, so the writing process wasn’t too much of a change; recording, however, was a bit different.
“As far as drums go, finding a studio, room, and an engineer who can work intense death metal is a must for us. We were fortunate enough to work with Zack Ohren and find a way to work around the pandemic to actually get a record that I think everyone will be insanely stoked on. I for one was very excited to finally get a chance to work with Zack, since I’ve lived in California my whole life and known of Zack’s work for half of it.
“Trust me when I tell you that not only did we pull off the covid record, but we managed to pull off one of our strongest records to date and I can’t wait for you all to hear it.”

The band hasn’t said when they expect to release this latest offering. Maybe if we’re lucky, later this year? It’s already been more than two years since they put out their last album, TerrorVision, so they’re technically due (although they did release an EP in 2020, La Grande Mascarade).
While we wait for more intel, Aborted bellower Sven de Caluwé was a guest on The MetalSucks Quarantinecast almost exactly a year ago! Revisit that fun chat between Sven and our Vince Neilstein here.
