Somnuri Unveil Proggy New Sludge Ripper, “Beyond Your Last Breath”

There comes a moment in every metal blogger’s life when they must decide what to do with that browser tab that’s been open for days, nagging and calling: am I going to write about that band, or declare tab bankruptcy and start over?

In the case of Somnuri, this band is just too good not to share, so public duty wins out. We’ve sung their praises before, but for the uninitiated, the band take a vaguely proggy approach to sludge and post-metal, and the results are a winning blend of hard-hitting riffs, musical mastery and earworm-worthy hooks. Their self-titled 2017 album delivered as did their 2019 split with Godmaker, and take it from us, these guys bring the goods live, too.
