Tony Hawk’s Son Just Put Out a Metal Video Starring Barney the Dinosaur
Did you know that Riley Hawk, the 28-year-old son of pro skating legend Tony Hawk, has a metal band? I didn’t, but I’m intrigued, and also impressed. It might be a bit of a stretch to call Warish metal, but the band’s blend of grunge, stoner and something a tad heavier is certainly on the metallic spectrum. And they’re pretty good!
Warish just put a new video for the song “S.H.M. (Second Hand Misery),” and the clip features found footage a lot of folks Riley’s age will surely recall fondly from their childhoods: Barney the Dinosaur of Barney & Friends fame. That’s literally the whole video: just clips of Barney dancing and being all creepy with little kids. The show had a whopping 14-season run starting in 1992, and if you’re of a certain age that time period is now firmly in the nostalgia canon.
Riley commented of the video:
“This video came to mind when I heard ‘If You’re Happy And You Know It’ by Barney playing somewhere and I was in a bad mood and was thinking ‘this song is kinda evil sounding.’ Then I went home and instantly started editing the video to the track ‘S.H.M.’ because it’s the polar opposite. It fitted nicely I thought.”
Give it a watch below. Next to Pay comes out on April 30 via stoner metal bastion RidingEasy Records; pre-order it here.
