GoFundMe Launched For Family of Ex-Underoath Guitarist Corey Steger, Who Died in Car Crash
Former Underoath guitarist Corey Steger, who played with the band’s original lineup starting in 1998 and left in 2001, tragically died last week in a car accident through no fault of his own whatsoever. He was only 42 years old and leaves behind his wife, Kim, and two children, aged seven and two.
Shelby Small, a self-described “neighbor and friend” of the Steger family, has now launched a GoFundMe campaign to give Corey’s wife and children a financial cushion during this difficult time as well as the months and years to come. She explains:
“On March 17, 2021 our Yulee neighbor and friend Corey lost his life after being rear ended on route 200 while waiting to turn into our neighborhood on his way home from work. He leaves behind his precious family; wife Kim, 7 year old daughter and 2 year old son. Let us support them during this time by taking a burden off their plate. Thank you in advance for this community’s support and prayers for our sweet neighbors.”
According to local TV news station News4Jax, Steger was waiting at a red light to make a left turn when a pickup truck failed to stop and collided with his vehicle from behind, pushing Steger’s vehicle into another stopped car in front of him. While Steger died at the scene, the drivers of both the pickup truck and other car both escaped with minor injuries, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Steger performed on Underoath’s first two albums, 1999’s Act of Depression and 2000’s Cries of the Past. Original Underoath vocalist Dallas Taylor (now of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster) first broke the news of Corey’s death with a tribute of his own.
