Former Metal Edge Editor Gerri Miller Dies; Members of GN’R, Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Anthrax, and More Pay Tribute
Gerri Miller, the longtime editor of Metal Edge magazine, has passed away at the age of 67, according to a post on her Facebook page by her sister-in-law, Heidi Lustig Miller. Metal Sludge reports that Miller battled Lupus for years, and was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer this past September.
Miller’s name may not mean much to young metal fans today, but she’s a legend. As one fan noted under the announcement of her passing, she was “the Helen Gurley Brown or the Anna Wintour of the ’80s rock scene.” Metal Edge‘s quality as a magazine, was, er, questionable, if we’re being honest… but if you were a kid in its heyday, you eagerly awaited its arrival every month. Metal Sludge began as a parody of Metal Edge — they use basically the same font for their logo — and Metal Sludge was very influential on MetalSucks… point being, we all owe Miller a debt of gratitude.
As word of her death has spread, members of various bands who used to get tons of coverage from Metal Edge — including Guns N’ Roses, Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Anthrax, Skid Row, and Poison, among others — have begun to pay tribute to Miller online. We’ve collected some of those tributes below.
Feel free to share your own remembrances of Miller in the comments section. Be respectful, please.
