Video: Poppy Performs New Song, “Eat,” at Grammy Awards

Poppy may not have won the Best Metal Performance Grammy at last night’s awards, losing out to Ice-T’s Body Count, but she had the unique distinction amongst nominees in the category of performing for the event.

Poppy gave her brand new song, “Eat,” its world debut at the Premiere Ceremony, the same pre-Grammy internet-only stream at which the award was doled out. Aided by an elaborate light show and stage set, Poppy put on an animated performance of the new song, which finds her leaning a bit more into rock than her most recent metal-focused album, I Disagree (which in turn shifted away from her prior effort’s dance pop sound).

I’m not sure the extent to which “Eat” represents the sonic direction of Poppy’s eventual next album — at this point I know the same amount as you all do — but Poppy’s always kept things moving forward, so I wouldn’t be surprised. The unexpected is the only thing that’s expected from Poppy at this point, and I’m along for the ride.

Give it a watch below.
