Stream The Hyena Kill’s Bleak But Magnificent New Album, A Disconnect
Life is hard and the days are long, especially right now. Why not try something different, then? Something to break up the monotony of work, household chores, childcare and whatever else comprises your daily slog. We metalheads need not start every single damn day with a bowl of Brutal-Os… mix up your musical palette and your outlook might just change, too.
For that I recommend The Hyena Kill, a quartet from Manchester, U.K. who’ve toured with Fu Manchu, Arcane Roots, Max & Igor, and others. The band’s new album, A Disconnect, has shades of moody metal such as Deftones or Chelsea Wolfe, but it’s also got a vaguely danceable element that’s as much Biffy Clyro as it is Modest Mouse, a combination that may sound strange in writing but works quite well in practice. I’ve yet to dive into the record’s lyrical themes, but it certainly feels bleak… which isn’t to say it’s a bad choice for lifting up your spirits. Sometimes indulging in the sad is the best cure for being sad, you know? Kinda like how listening to heavy music helps us expunge our aggression.
We’ll post the entire new album below along with a video for its latest single, “Witness,” if you want the visual element. Give them a spin and see if it helps your day along. It helped mine!
A Disconnect came out last Friday, March 5, via APF Records; order it here.
