System of a Down’s Serj Tankian Shares First Solo Single, “Elasticity”
System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has released “Elasticity,” the first single and title track of his forthcoming solo EP.
The EP consists of a group of “rock songs” Tankian was working on by himself at least as far back as 2018, saying at the time they were originally written for System but that he now planned to release them as part of a solo EP in light of the creative differences that continue to keep System of a Down from making a new album.
Serj backed up that sentiment again in a quote accompanying his new single, saying:
“When I conceived possibly doing another record with the guys from System of a Down a few years back, I started working on a set of songs that I arranged in rock format for that purpose,” Serj explains. “As we weren’t able to see eye to eye on the vision going forward with an SOAD album, I decided to release these songs under my moniker.”
“Elasticity” arrives with a fun music video that serves as commentary on the monotony, unfairness and hamster-like existence of every day life. You can watch that below.
Elasticity comes out on March 19 via Alchemy Recordings/BMG; pre-order here.
