The Material on Serj Tankian’s New EP Was NOT Rejected by System of a Down

I recently wrote a post in which I said that Serj Tankian’s new EP, Elasticity, consists of tracks Tankian originally wrote for, but were ultimately rejected by, System of a Down.

As it turns out, this is not the case: a rep for Tankian tells MetalSucks that while the singer did write the songs with the hope of recording them with System of a Down, they were never “rejected” by the band — the band simply ended up not making a new album, and Tankian decided to record and release these songs separately.

I would like to offer my most sincere apologies to Mr. Tankian for any strife my error may have caused. I’m sure the dude has enough on his plate without worrying about boneheaded bloggers.

In my very, very meager defense, the quote from Tankian that led me to this rash assumption is a little confusing; Tankian does say that he and the other members of SOAD “messed around with some of” the songs immediately before commenting that the band members have been “unable to see eye-to-eye on continuing the future recordings of System.”

Not at all in my defense: at no point did Tankian actually say the other members of System of a Down rejected these songs.

So, yeah. I screwed up. Throw all the #fakenews hashtags at me you want. I have it coming.

The title track from Elasticity will premiere via a music video this evening (Thursday, February 4) 9 pm PST/ midnight EST, and I’m very excited for it despite my dopiness.
