Metal Bands Compared by Spotify Monthly Listeners, February 2021 Rankings
Every month we take a look at Spotify’s ‘monthly listeners’ counts for several hundred metal bands and compare them side by side to compare relative popularity at any given moment. For more on why we’re doing this column and the methodology behind it, read this.
February’s numbers are in, with more than two-thirds of the artists listed showing an upward trend over January’s numbers. Those increases follow a dip most artists experienced from December to January as music consumers returned to their regular routines after the holidays.
Some of the biggest gainers in the metal world over the past month included:
- Bring Me the Horizon (30.71%)
- Escape the Fate (24.57%)
- Children of Bodom (27.96%)
- Demon Hunter (20.12%)
- Amorphis (24.26%)
- Overkill (23.23%)
- Fleshgod Apocalypse (42.67%)
- Brand of Sacrifice (28.92%)
- King’s X (27.20%)
- Gatecreeper (191.97%)
- Moon Tooth (26.95%)
These rankings, it must be stated, are not comprehensive: these are bands we chose manually, and it is absolutely the case that many bands aren’t included (please email [email protected] if you’d like to see them added next month). For that reason, we haven’t numbered these rankings: to do so would disingenuously give the appearance this is a comprehensive list, which it is not.
