Best Mash-up Ever of the Day: Metallica Meet Huey Lewis in “Hip to Be the Sandman”
Here’s a funny story from Vince’s bachelor party back in the day: a bunch of piled into a well-known metal drummer’s van to go to a bar, and while the Drummer drove, a well-known dude from a well-known metal label rode shotgun. The Drummer handed said Label Dude his iPod and told him to play DJ. The Label Dude scrolled through the Drummer’s music collection and said, with 100% sincerity, “Seriously, dude? NO Huey Lewis?”
I think about this pretty much every time I hear Huey Lewis now. And I definitely thought about it when listening to master masher-upper Bill McClintock’s latest concoction, “Hip to Be the Sandman,” which melds together Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” with Huey Lewis and the News’ “Hip to Be Square” (along with dashes of Judas Priest’s “Living After Midnight” and Megadeth’s “Peace Sells”). If only we’d had this that fateful night in the metal drummer’s van!
