New Ozzy Album Half-Done; Will Include Members of Metallica, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers
In September, Ozzy Osbourne revealed that he’s begun recording a follow-up to this year’s excellent Ordinary Man with that album’s producer, Andrew Watt.
Now, in a new interview with Guitar World (by way of The PRP), Watt has dropped some details about that album… specifically, that they’re “about halfway through” the recording process, and that like Ordinary Man, they’ve enlisted some all-stars to act as Ozzy’s backing band.
Said all-stars include Ozzy’s former bassist, Robert Trujillo, who is now in some band called Metallica; Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, who also played on Ordinary Man; and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Presumably, Watts will once again handle guitar duties, as he did on Ordinary Man, save for a couple of sweet cameos from Slash.
Here are my totally random thoughts:
I. Speaking of Guns N’ Roses: Dunno why bassist Duff McKagan isn’t coming back for Ordinary Man 2: More Ordinary, but hopefully it’s because he’s too busy making a new GN’R album.
II. So I guess Trujillo isn’t too busy making a new Metallica album.
III. No Zakk Wylde AGAIN? Sheesh!
IV. Actually, it’s a little funny that Hawkins is gonna be on this album and Wylde isn’t. You may recall that in 2001, Wylde said this:
“If I ever run into Dave Grohl, I’m gonna kick his fuckin’ ass, because I think he sucks, and he wrote this cheese-dick song for OZZY that I have to fuckin’ play on, and I’ll never forgive him for that. Foo Fighters is a fuckin’ candy-ass girl band, but you’ve got that motherfucker submitting songs [to Ozzy], too. I mean, none of these guys could play a Randy Rhoads solo if they tried. Dave Grohl? Fuck Dave Grohl! Let him get up there and play ‘Mr. Crowley’ — he can’t fuckin’ do it! And it’s like, you’re getting this guy to write songs for Ozzy? Just because he played drums for fucking Shitvana?”
Fortunately, Wylde’s thinking has evolved since he said that — he actually performed with the “fuckin’ candy-ass girl band” last year.
