Static-X Cover Mötley Crüe’s “Looks That Kill”
Tucked away on a special edition of Static-X’s 2009 album Cult of Static was a cover of Mötley Crüe’s “Looks That Kill” from the latter’s seminal 1983 record Shout at the Devil. Now that track has made its way onto streaming services for the first time, marking its introduction to the world and Static-X fans at large. Covers of Whitesnake’s “Still of the Night” and Poison’s “Talk Dirty to Me” were also on the bonus edition.
The band’s frontman and namesake Wayne Static died in 2014 of a drug overdose. His widow, Tera Wray, died in 2016.
Static-X launched a major tour with Dope’s Edsel Dope fronting the band under the name ‘Xer0’ in 2019. A new album called Project Regeneration, Vol. 1, featuring vocals of Static’s recorded before his death, came out this past summer.
