Seth Meyers Made a Megadeth Joke
Megadeth were referenced on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night (Thursday, November 5) as part of a joke relating to Rudy Giuliani.
Giuliani, the cousin-fucking former mayor of New York City who is now Donald Trump’s personal attorney, has been toeing the party line that the election is somehow being stolen from El Trumpo (it is not).
So how does that relate to Megadeth? I won’t spoil it here — just watch the video below. I have it all queued up for you, but in case it’s not working or whatever, the ‘Deth bit comes in around the 10:12 mark.
Meyers, a former head writer for Saturday Night Live and co-host of that show’s regular “Weekend Update” segment, has been surprisingly-metal friendly since taking over Late Night in 2014. Drummers who have sat in with the show’s house band, The 8G Band with Fred Armisen, have included Deftones’ Abe Cunningham, Mastodon’s Brann Dailor, Tool’s Danny Cary, Korn’s Ray Luzier, Primus’ Tim Alexander, and Stone Temple Pilots’ Eric Kretz. The host has also made jokes about Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, and, just this past June, Ozzfest.
All of which leads makes it safe to assume that Meyers and/or someone or someones on his staff are metal fans. This being the case, I have to wonder if they specifically chose Megadeth for this joke because of Dave Mustaine’s well-documented conservative leanings. I mean, maybe not. Maybe they already had the license on the Megadeth photo or something so it was just easier. I don’t mean to come off as a conspiracy theorist.
Speaking of Megadeth, they’re currently hard at work on a new album. Catch up on everything we know so far here.
