Watch Rage Against the Machine’s First-Ever Public Performance From 1991

Video of Rage Against the Machine’s first-ever public performance has been making the rounds of late after finding its way online a few years back. The show took place California State University, Northridge on October 23, 1991 — 29 years ago today.

Highlights of the video include an instrumental version of “Killing in the Name,” and a dude who gets really into shit around the 19:32 mark.

Last week, Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de la Rocha performed with hip-hop duo Run the Jewels as part of an Adult Swim streaming event to raise voter awareness. You can watch video of that performance here.

Rage Against the Machine were forced to postpone their big summer 2020 reunion tour due to the pandemic. The dates have been rescheduled for 2021. Support will come from the aforementioned Run the Jewels.
