Soilwork Debut New Song, Announce EP!
Soilwork’s creative renaissance in the David Andersson era continues!
The Swedish melodeath masters have released a new song, “The Nothingness and the Devil,” one of five songs to appear on a newly announced EP titled A Whisp of the Atlantic. Three of those songs have been released over the past year, with the fifth — the title track — presumably on the way before too long. The tracklist:
01. “A Whisp of the Atlantic”
02. “Feverish”
03. “Desperado”
04. “Death Diviner”
05. “The Nothingness and the Devil”
Fittingly, “The Nothingness and the Devil” finds a lot of musical commonality between the EP’s three middle songs. In other words, it finds Soilwork embracing their mid-paced, groovier side with catchy as hell hooks.
Guitarist David Andersson states:
“‘The Nothingness And The Devil’ is a song about how the old concept of a patriarchal God doesn’t work anymore, and how everyone with any logic reasoning must accept that we have to create our own deities, if we need them. Or if we don’t, we’ll have to accept the fact that our lives are essentially meaningless unless we are able to find our meaning and make ourselves feel fulfilled. The video also hints at the emasculation of a male god, and how gender shouldn’t be a factor in any form of religious discourse anymore. Perhaps this is the time to question your beliefs and accept that no God will correct the mess that we all have put ourselves into.”
A Whisp Of The Atlantic comes out on December 4. Listen to the new jam below.
