Former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony performed the band’s classic track “Right Now” live on Thursday, October 8, with their newer band, The Circle, as part of Sammy’s annual birthday bash.

“We’re about to do a very special song that means a lot to Michael Anthony and myself,” Sammy told the crowd before the song. “So I would like to ask for just a quick moment of silence, please. And you know why.”

Sammy’s 2020 birthday bash was hosted on Catalina Island, California instead of its usual location at Hagar’s Cabo Wabo club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event was a “boat-in” with tickets available for a limited amount of boats in the harbor abutting the stage, and was professionally filmed for a pay-per-view broadcast scheduled for October 17 via nugs.tv.

In addition to Hagar and Anthony, The Circle, founded in 2014, features drummer Jason Bonham (son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham) and guitarist Vic Johnson.

You can watch fan-filmed footage of “Right Now” below.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, Hagar and Anthony posted a special video message in honor of Eddie from rehearsal that included the opening notes of “Right Now” and a tearful Anthony.
