Listen: Khemmis Cover “Down in a Hole” by Alice in Chains

Khemmis are the second notable metal band in the past week to cover Alice in Chains’ “Down in a Hole,” after Code Orange… and with all due respect to Code Orange, who I think are great and who I think did a really good version with the song, it is my humble opinion that Khemmis’ iteration is superior.

The reason? They did a lot more to make the song their own. Parts of it are very recognizable as “Down in a Hole,” but other parts are almost 100% Khemmis’ own. It all works, and it all ends up sounding like a Khemmis song, not a Khemmis cover. I dig it (excuse the pun).

Check out Khemmis’ Alice in Chains’ “Down in a Hole” below. It will be part of Magnetic Eye’s upcoming Dirt [Redux], which will re-create the entire 1992 classic with an impressive array of artists, including Thou (who will do “Them Bones”), -(16)- (“Hate to Feel”), Low Flying Hawks (“Dam That River”), and more. It comes out September 18; pre-order it here.
