Video: 35 Musicians From Around the World Mash-Up Guns N’ Roses and Stevie Wonder for Charity
Y’know what’s even better than a fun mash-up created from pre-existing recordings of classic songs? A fun mash-up created by real live musicians. And y’know what even BETTERER than a fun mash-up created by real live musicians? A a fun mash-up created by real live musicians to benefit charity!
Enter Leo Playa, a London-based session guitarist. When the pandemic began, Playa received assistance from Help Musicians, “an independent UK charity for professional musicians of all genres, from starting out through to retirement.” Playa subsequently decided to return the favor and raise awareness for Help Musicians, which he has by enlisting “thirty-five professional musicians from all over the world” to recording a live version of “Living for the Paradise City.” The amalgamation of “Paradise City” by Guns N’ Roses and Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City” was originally created by MS fave Bill McClintock. Not only do the two tracks go together well musically, but there’s a lot of thematic overlap in the lyrics as well. In other words, this is pretty friggin’ great.
