Def Leppard Guitarist Gives 50/50 Odds That Tour With Mötley Crüe Will Happen in 2021

I’m not a doctor, and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I would still advise that no one get their hopes up about seeing what were supposed to be the big tours of summer 2020 in the summer of 2021. At least one health expert has predicted that concerts won’t return until the fall of 2021 “at earliest.” If I have to explain to you why that’s the case, I assume you just woke from a coma. Welcome back. There’s a lot going on.

ANYWAY, a key participant in one such summer 2021 tour that was previously scheduled to be taking place right this very moment is keenly aware that they may have to postpone the trek again. When Eddie Trunk recently asked Def Leppard’s Phil “I’m 62 and I’m Shredded AF” Collen if he thought his band’s big stadium tour with Mötley Crüe, Poison, Joan Jett, and Tuk Smith and the Raiders of the Lost Ark would actually go down twelve months from now, the guitarist responded:

“I honestly don’t know. I’d say it’s 50/50. If everyone does what they are supposed to do, then we will be there next summer.”

By “everyone does what they are supposed to do,” I assume Collen means “Wear a face mask, practice social distancing, and just generally don’t be a total dick.” Which is good advice, and I hope his words incentivize any Def Lep fans who also happen to be MAGA peeps to get their shit together. I mean, have you seen this chart? Holy fuck, America is doing a lousy job combating this thing.

But the truth is, it’s probably gonna take more than just participating in safe practices for people to be able to gather in large crowds again without fear of illness and death — it’s probably gonna take a vaccine. I’d love to be wrong, and I still encourage people to do their part to slow the spread of the virus. But I wouldn’t be shocked if this tour doesn’t happen until 2022, if at all. I mean, Mick Mars will be in his seventies by then. Just sayin’.
