Ozzy Offers Health Update: “I’m Getting Better. It’s a Slow Process”
Last we checked in with Ozzy Osbourne, who is recovering from myriad health woes that forced the postponement of dozens of tour dates (which were then postponed again before ultimately being axed due to the pandemic), the 71-year-old singer said he’s still “in unbelievable pain 24/7.” That was back in February since which point, obviously, the world has come to a halt. Presumably the fact that there’s no rush to get back out has taken some of the pressure off the Ozzman to hurry up with his recovery.
As a guest on his own wife Sharon’s daily talk show, The Talk, Ozzy recently gave an update on his condition, and indeed, the downtime has done him well. He explained:
“It’s been good, actually. I’ve been recovering from a surgery I had last year. So I’ve never been at home this long in my whole career. So I’ve had a chance to see my wife’s side of the fence more than me being on the road. So it’s had its moments, I must confess. I’m getting better. It’s a slow process, but I’m getting there slowly but surely.”
In addition to the fall that caused his most recent round of injuries, Ozzy announced in January he’s got Parkinson’s disease, then revealed a month later that he’s had it since 2003. Ozzy explained in February to The Sun that managing the condition hasn’t been bad compared to what he’s been through recently:
“If I had a choice between the Parkinson’s and the f***ing neck, I’d go for the Parkinson’s. I’ve been laid up for a year now. First I had an infection in my hand — that pulled me off the road — then I got pneumonia, then I had the fall, then I had surgery and here I am today. It’s driving me nuts.”
He also sought to clarify that the version of Parkinson’s he has is a relatively mild form:
“It’s like, ‘Dun, dun, duuuuun . . . Ozzy’s got Parkinson’s’. But I actually have a thing called PRKN 2. It’s not mainstream Parkinson’s like Michael J Fox’s, but a milder form, I’m glad to say. It affects regular things — like if you get a cold, it could be the Parkinson’s. Or if I get a stiff leg, I think, ‘Is it the Parkinson’s?’ What I have makes ordinary living a bit more complicated.
“The problem I’m having right now is with my neck. After the fall a year ago, I ended up having surgery on the area first damaged by my quad bike accident. It has caused far more problems than the Parkinson’s. I was still doing shows with the diagnosis.”
Continuing to wish The Prince of Darkness all the best in his recovery.
