System of a Down’s Serj Tankian Says Trump-Loving Fans of the Song “Temper” Are “Hypocrites”
Despite the fact that System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan recently outed himself as a Trump-supporting, pro-pig, misinformed bigot who believes in ridiculous conspiracy theories, the band’s much more enlightened singer, Serj Tankian, can’t come right out and call Dolmayan a prick without causing serious rifts both within his band and his family (he and Dolmayan are brothers-in-law). Maybe someday Serj will feel comfortable inciting that kind of interpersonal drama, but for now, at least, he’s choosing to remain relatively polite about the whole thing.
What Tankian can do without creating an uncomfortable situation, though, is continue to speak out against the things in which Dolmayan believes, and even point out that a lot of SOAD’s music aligns with conservatism about as well as that of Rage Against the Machine.
Which Tankian has now done in the form of a social media post about the band’s early demo track, “Temper.” Speaking about the track, Tankian says that “if you love this song or play along to it and love Trump, you’re a hypocrite-just a simple fact.” Since Dolmayan likely does have some affection for “Temper,” and has DEFINITELY played along with it, Tankian’s post seems like a not-so-sneaky way to respond to the drummer’s recent comments without naming names.
