And the New Drummer for Obscura Is…
David Diepold!
The 29-year-old Austrian drummer is also currently a member of Cognizance, Give Em Blood, Amon Din, and Nü Jakk Citie, and has performed live with Benighted and Hate. He replaces Sebastian Lanser, who quit Obscura last month, along with guitarist Rafael Trujillo and bassist Linus Klausenitzer, to launch a new project, Obsidious.
Says Diepold of his new gig:
“Being asked to join Obscura was definitely a dream come true! You know, I’m at a point in my musical career, where I tend to say, that the countless hours in my rehearsal room are finally starting to pay off. Especially over the last five or six years, applications from bands and musicians continuously got more professional and collaborating with those artists all helped a lot to improve my drumming skills and to grow as a musician. I will do my absolute best to recreate Hannes’ and Sebastian’s parts in the context of our live performances but most of all, I’m looking forward to write new material with such outstanding musicians!”
For those having a hard time keeping track, that means that Obscura’s current line-up is mastermind Steffen Kummerer, Diepold, and bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling, who re-joined the band at the end of April. So now they only need to hire a new guitarist to replace Trujillo to have a full line-up again.
While we wait to see who will round out the band, here’s a video of Diepold playing through Obscura’s “Vortex Omnivium”:
