Jeremy Spencer’s Psychosexual: Moderately Better or Moderately Worse Than Five Finger Death Punch?
Everyone can relax now: at last, former Five Finger Death Punch drummer, sometimes pig, and kinda-sorta pornographer Jeremy Spencer has returned to the world of heavy music. Specifically, he has returned as the frontman for a masked band called Psychosexual. Based on their first single, “Let the Sin Begin,” it seems like Spencer — who now wants us to call him “Devil Daddy” (gross) — is really following his passion for adult entertainment; the track features such romantic lyrics as “You’ll be wiping my love that’s dripping from the chin,” and the video includes appearances by adult entertainers Masuimi Max, Madison Morgan, Janey Doe and Idelsy Love. In Spencer’s — er, Devil Daddy’s — defense, it’s not as though anyone would care about the drek if the video didn’t include scantily-clad women.
Thing is, based on “Let the Sin Begin,” I’d say that Psychosexual are actually marginally better than FFDP. The track sounds kinda like a dumbed-down version of “I’m Afraid of Americans,” which I find slightly less grating than the dumbed-down ’90s arena rock in which Five Finger Death Punch traffic. Slightly.
You can check out Let the Sin Begin via the below NSFW music video, though, and decide for yourself. Psychosexual’s debut album, Torch the Faith, will be out sometime, uh, whenever. In addition to Devil Daddy, the band’s line-up includes guitarist Crucifier, bassist Astaroth and drummer Volac, who I’m assuming are former members of Mushroomhead and the guy who didn’t get the percussionist job in Slipknot.
