CONTRACULT Collective Debut New Song + Video, “WDYT”
I was totally blown away by the new industrial duo, CONTRACULT Collective, when they released their first two songs back in January. I’m no less impressed by their just-released third track, “WDYT.” On the surface, it seems like a relatively simple song, but plenty of subtle variances — moments when the main riff is being played a bit differently, the guitar becomes a little thrashier or thicker, the vocals more serpentine, or the synths more prominent — keep it from feeling redundant and boring. There’s a great, albeit brief, guitar solo, which I think is too rare in this genre. And the general flow of the vocal deliveries give it a lot of dramatic impact, almost as though it were a diss track (which I guess it kind of is — it’s about the shittiness of modern social media culture). I never would have thought the line “Kill me yourself, because you’re not Manson, you’re Lecter” could be so insulting, but there you have it. It’s killer stuff.

CONTRACULT Collective are signed to Roadrunner; presumably a full-length will be forthcoming sometime in the not-too-distant future.
