Protest the Hero Drop New Tune, “The Canary”
Protest the Hero, who have not released a new full-length album in six and a half years (the Pacific Myth EP acted as a stop-gap in 2015/2016), have ended their draught just like that: after years of fits and starts, they posted an image on social media yesterday presumed to be a new album’s cover, and now this morning they’ve dropped a new song called “The Canary.” Bam!
This baby JUST went live and has 594 views as I’m typing this, so in my haste to get this post cranked out for you all I’m gonna just embed the song below without even listening all the way through, then we can do so together and reconvene with our thoughts in the comments section, mmmkay?
I will say this, though: the song begins with the following attention-grabbing line: “I was named after my grandmother in the traditional of my family / I was born after my stillborn sister.” Whoa! Autobiographical? Rock opera? Curious what Protest have up their sleeves here.
It seems that “The Canary” is the album’s title track from the YouTube description labeling, although it’s not quite clear. Give it a spin below! Thanks to uber-MetalSucks tipster Ranpal for sending this in.
