Linkin Park are the #9 Most-Streamed Group in YouTube History
Chart Data, the appropriately-titled Twitter account and website that offers “music charts and news in real time,” has posted an interesting ranking showing the top ten music groups of all time in terms of cumulative YouTube views.
Note that only groups are included, not solo artists. Of relevance to fans of heavy music, Linkin Park come in at #9. Here is the list:
#1: Maroon 5
#2: BTS
#3: Coldplay
#4: The Chainsmokers
#5: Imagine Dragons
#6: One Direction
#7: Blackpink
#8: Henrique e Juliano
#9: Linkin Park
#10: Banda MS
Ignorant American that I am, I’m pleasantly surprised to see such an international representation of artists, with four of the top ten hailing from outside America or the U.K.
I’m also forced to wonder what kind of bump Linkin Park’s number experienced after Chester Bennington’s death in 2017, and whether the band would have charted as high before that date (I’m not trying to take away from Linkin Park’s popularity — surely their numbers were already quite high — but it’s a valid question as deaths often produce spikes in streaming numbers).
Follow Chart Data on Twitter for more factoids like these; it’s not often they post about artists of primary concern to our readership, but it’s still a good follow.
