Wolfheart Bring Down “The Hammer” with New Single/Video
If you, like me, experience anxiety from watching TV in the era of social distancing — “those people are too close together!! oh wait…” — then your first thought upon viewing Wolfheart’s new video for “The Hammer” will be to attempt to reach through the screen and separate the band members like the schoolmaster at a 6th grade dance.
No? Just me? Well then you’ll at least long for a time when bands could gather together in the same room to make music. We didn’t know how good we had it!
That Wolfheart are so consistently good will help improve your mood either way, “The Hammer” one of their heavier numbers in recent memory, featuring an unshakeable mid-paced groove guiding it along (sometimes these hit harder than the tracks at 10,000bpm).
Wolfheart frontman Tuomas Saukkonen offers:
“‘The Hammer’ is the best song to describe the Finnish perseverance and willpower. ‘Never surrender, Never retreat, The last defender, The hammer of the north’. Those lines really underline the fact that no matter what the conditions were, the enemy had to be stopped. Nature was the anvil and you had to become a hammer, and between those two, no invading army could survive. With the video we wanted to reflect the brotherhood in the band and the crew in contrast to the wrath of the lyrics.”
Wolfheart’s new album, Wolves Of Karelia, comes out this Friday, April 10 via Napalm Records; pre-order here. Listen to the previous single, “Ashes,” as well.
