Dio is Coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe
2017’s Thor: Ragnarok was one of Marvel’s best movies to date. I think so, the critics think so, heck, Quentin Tarantino thinks so. So everyone who cares about these kinda things is very excited that Ragnarok writer/director Taika Waititi — fresh off his Oscar win for Jojo Rabbit — is returning for the fourth Thor movie, which will be called Thor: Love and Thunder.
That title is already pretty metal (I can’t hear/read it without thinking of Mastodon’s “Blood and Thunder“), and Waititi made excellent use of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” in Ragnarok.
And it sounds like Waititi won’t be shying away from Thor’s metalocity in this new flick: “The movie Thor 4, they’re using ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ in that movie,” Wendy Dio recently told Australia’s Subculture Media. Whether or not it will play as prominent a role in Love and Thunder as Led Zep did in Ragnarok obviously remains to be seen, but it’s not hard to envision the title character and his allies kickin’ ass and takin’ names to the Dio classic.
I will say it’s kinda B.S. that we’re four movies deep into the Thor franchise (not counting his appearances in the various Avengers films) and they still haven’t employed any viking metal, but hey, Disney owns the property, that there’s gonna be any metal in it is a minor miracle.
You can listen to the entire Wendy Dio — in which she also reveals RDJ’s connection to the new season of Stranger Things — below. Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled for release on November 5, 2021.
